Vintage West Africa -Dahomy-now known as Benin Those handmade patchwork fabric tapestries were created for the king for 300 years for by male Taylors and high ranking officials, displaying symbols of their power and achievements. After the French colonization of Dahomey it was named Benin and those textiles became popular for decorative designs at homes. This tapestry has the central lion figure that represents the king-king lion that is devouring his enemies. Size approximately 46” x 33”
